The 3 thought patterns that can crush your clients' creativity

It all started with a post on Facebook.

"I don't want to spend $30/month to have my own website because I can't guarantee a new website will work for my new business," I saw someone post in a business-y Facebook group.

"But...but..." my mind wanted to retort her.

Her business, her rules of course.

My counselling-trained mind instantly noticed this thought pattern : the need to be certain before taking a small risk.

This pattern can destroy creativity and excitement in one shot.

In fact, almost nothing in life and in business is absolutely certain.

It is actually healthy to take calculated risks in business because we may discover a new strategy or two that can help us grow.

Doing the same things will yield the same results for us.

✨Let's unpack the 3 common thought patterns which can destroy your clients' creativity (and ours as well).

  1. The need to be certain before taking a healthy risk

  2. "I can't fail because it will hurt my ego and my image."

  3. "I must always stick to the tried-and-tested way of doing things."

For thought pattern #1, you can help your clients shift it to : "Nothing is 100% certain in life and business. If I don't try a new strategy, my business is not going to grow."

For thought pattern #2, you can help your clients shift it to : "My self-worth does not depend on my business or career success. My 'failure' can be a learning lesson or a story I tell others."

For thought pattern #3, you can suggest your clients this approach : "I can try a new method and see how my clients or customers receive it. What if this new method works even better than my current method?"

Being creative can build resilience.

Taking chances and thinking out-of-the-box means that we have to be ready to welcome unexpected successes and 'failures'.

Most people think they need to be mentally and emotionally strong to be resilient. Well, taking creative actions can also help you build that resilience and strength.

If you have other ideas on how to build resilience in yourself or in your clients, you can share them with me in the Comments section.

Thank you for being in my world.

Till next time,
